Background

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is one of the regions with the highest degree of openness and the strongest economic vitality in China, and has an important strategic position in the overall situation of national development. It is pointed in the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area that the Greater Bay Area is aimed to be constructed as a vibrant world-class city cluster, an international technological innovation center with global influence and an important support for the “Belt and Road” Initiative. The changes and opportunities brought about by the development of the Greater Bay Area also put forward a new proposition in talent cultivation for the local universities. .

Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) is an important integral part of the plan for constructing Beijing Normal University (BNU) as the world-class university with first-class disciplines. It is a crucial support for implementing “One University, Two Campuses", the strategic layout of BNU, which includes developing Beijing Normal University in Beijing and in Zhuhai simultaneously. In addition, it is a significant base for BNU to deepen the reform of education and teaching as well as explore the innovation of talent cultivation mode. In order to meet the requirements of comprehensive and innovative talents geared to the social and economic development in the GBA, Beijing Normal University, required by trend of times, promotes the educational reform and innovation, focusing on cultivating top-notch comprehensive talents. Based on the principle of "High Standard, New Mechanism and Internationalization", BNU Zhuhai manages to explore the collaborative education mode of "School + College", conducting the concept of cultivation in three aspects: whole members, whole process, and whole round. Zhixing College is one of the first three colleges established under the above concepts.

Vision

Mixture of knowing and doing is the basic proposition of Chinese philosophy.It is claimed in Shang Shu (The Book of History, a collection of historical literature in ancient China, especially in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties) that "It is not difficult to know, but difficult to do". The famous philosopher Wang Yangming in the Ming Dynasty also stated the "Combination of knowledge and action". The name “Zhixing College”, which means knowledge and practice, is not only the embodiment of cultivating comprehensive talents but also a representation of integrating theory with practice.

The College, based on full understanding of the growth characteristics of the college students, offers them series of courses on responsibility, such as family and national identity, public dedication, youth leadership, and global vision etc. as well as courses of humanities, including philosophical thinking, cultural inheritance, humanity, art and appreciation etc., so as to guide the students to establish ideal and beliefs, set up high aspirations and develop into the qualified builder and reliable successor in the new era with Chinese socialism characteristics.
