Upholding this view, Hongwen College fully implements the fundamental task of moralitybuilding and talent cultivating, meets the emerging requirements and missions occurred in the field of education in China and adheres to the motto of Beijing Normal University “Learn to be an Excellent Teacher; Act as an Exemplary Person.” Hongwen College is committed to cultivating a group of students into outstandinginnovative teachers in the future who havestrong passion for education, sustained interests and motivation in learning, profound academic foundation, outstanding skills of communication, cooperation and leadership, broad international vision and competence and incentive to face the reform and exploration.

The College inherits and promotes excellent traditional Chinese culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture, and guides students to learn from the celebrated teachers and scholars from Beijing Normal University, such as dedicating to the cause of education, devoting to teaching and involving in imparting doctrine and academic knowledgewhole-heatedly so as to develop a group of “four-have” teachers (namely, teachers who have ideals and beliefs, moral sentiments, profound academic foundation and a heart of benevolence), an indispensable part for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

As a distinctive college that Beijing Normal University is striving to build, Hongwen College is run by a jointly cultivation system, that is, the college and the related academic schools. The professional administrative team, tutors and teachers work consistently and coordinately to fulfill the work of management, education, guidance and service. Students of the college are mainly public-funded students for future teaching and “Excellent Teacher Program”whose majors cover Chinese language and literature, history, biological science, chemistry, geographic science, and physical education.

The College is operated by a tutorial system, which consists of academic tutors (full-time teachers in the university), practice and internship tutors (off-campus backbone teachers and renowned educators), growth tutors (counselors and class teachers) and topnotch fellow students from the on-campus undergraduates of Hongwen College. Thus, the College provides an agreeable living environment, a professional aid, a comprehensive cultivation in growth, and featured courses, creating a community for teachers and students to learn, to live and to grow in a way of immersive experience.

The College, on the basis of student-centered development principle, endeavors to cultivate theirhabit forming, capability enhancing, and all-round development. Adhering to the laws of education, focusing on the students, pooling educational resources, and promoting students’ independent growth, the work of the College closely revolves around the goal of talent cultivating. ——Cultivate education ideals and passions. With the goal of cultivating students to be high-quality teachers and educators who will work in the basic education field in the future, the College provides tutoring seminars or conferenceslectured by well-known teachers, principals, educators, and exhibitsthe achievementsof outstanding students’from Hongwen College. It stresses the value guiding in an all-round way, strengthens the significance of patriotism, collectivism and socialism, encourages students to establish and adhere to the correct view of history, nationality, country, and culture so that students gradually form the morality and professional identity of teaching and strong passion foreducation.

——Improve professional competence through practice. The College manages to develop a multi-functionalinternship and practice channel, bridging the university and society and regulate requirements for practical abilities. It organizes series of activities to help students better understand education and professional knowledge, and improve their ability to learn independently and promote the integrated and coordinated development of knowledge, competencies and morality, such activities include visits and exchanges, volunteer teaching, vocational competitions, special skills training and so on.

——Focus on cultural cultivation through general education. The College integrates the excellent traditional Chinese culture into the cultural construction and creates a “second classroom”. By providing general education lectures and reading classes, organizing interest groups, offeringtraditional cultural studies and cultural visits, the College helps students comprehend the unique value and connotation of Chinese culture and enrich humanistic abilities, such as global vision, open mind, modern thinking pattern, awareness and courage of innovation and creativity, and adventurous spirit so on and so forth.
