In order to serve the major national strategy, promote regional economic and social development and to effectively accelerate the construction of the Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai with joint efforts of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai City, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences was established at BNU at Zhuhai in June 2018 for the realization of the "double first-class" construction goals.

Aligned with the "double first-class" construction goals and the "One University, Two Campuses" strategic deployment, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences is responsible for the organization, incubation, management and coordination of scientific research institutions, based on the principle of "high standard, new mechanism and internationalization". With the advantages of Beijing Normal University, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences will focus on the development demand of the national humanities and social sciences, responding to the development strategy and the major demand of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and facing the academic frontier, conducting original, forward-looking and cross-type scientific research, striving to speed up the pace of construction, and gradually develop into a high-quality humanities and social sciences hub with international influence. It will become a high-end intelligent library that provides policy and advisory services for the country and society and a training base for innovative talents. Through the innovative and pragmatic construction, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences will promote the transformation of BNU at Zhuhai and the construction of the first-class disciplines of Beijing Normal University, accelerate the academic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and contribute to the prosperity of Chinese humanities and social sciences.
