The Opening Report and Academic Symposium of NSSFC Major Project Held at BNU Zhuhai

On the morning of March 5, the opening report and academic symposium of National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) Major Project “Research on the Construction and Theoretical Innovation of Chinese Lexicology in the Context of Global Cultural Exchanges” was held at Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai). Professor Zhou Jian from Center for Linguistic Sciences (CLS) of Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IASHSS) led the project.

The meeting was held both online and offline, with more than 70 experts and scholars from over 30 universities and academic institutions, including Peking University (PKU), Beijing Foreign Studies University(BFSU), Beijing Language and Culture University(BLCU), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences(CASS), Shaanxi Normal University(SNNU), Shanghai Foreign Studies University(SFSU), Xiamen University(XMU), Chinese University of Hong Kong(CUHK), University of Macau(UM), Kansai University (Japan) and Meikai University (Japan).

Wei Wei, Chairperson of the University Council at BNU Zhuhai, and Zheng Hongjun, Director of Guangdong Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science delivered the opening speeches.Chen Xi, Director of International Education of BNU Zhuhai, Zuo Rui, Director of the Scientific Research Office of BNU Zhuhai, and professors from other platforms concerned also attended the meeting.The opening ceremony of the meeting was presided over by Li Jiayong, Vice President of the IASHSS of BNU.

Wei Wei introduced the construction of scientific research and cultivation of talents at BNU Zhuhai. She pointed out that the construction of the “double world-class project” disciplines of BNU Zhuhai adheres to the construction principle of “dislocation, increment and promotion” and two disciplines included in the “double world-class project” disciplines-Chinese Language and Literature and Foreign Language and Literature-largely develop based on linguistics. She hoped that the implementation of this project would be taken as an opportunity for the CLS to promote scientific research and disciplines construction.

On behalf of the Guangdong Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science, Zheng Hongjun congratulated BNU Zhuhai on launching its first NSSFC major project. He hoped that the project team would seize the opportunity, give full play to the leading role of BNU as a first-class university and academic institution, produce a series of influential and high-quality academic achievements to better serve the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Professor Shi Dingxu of GDUFS chaired the opening report of the project. Professor Zhou Jian and five sub-project leaders (Professor Lu Liehong of WHU, Professor Shen Guowei of BFSU, Professor Shu Dingfang of SFSU, Professor Dong Xiufang of PKU and researcher Du Xiang of the CASS) reported on their projects and implementation schemes. The experts and scholars present proposed constructive suggestions on those schemes and agreed that the schemes and targets of the project are practical and outstanding achievements can be expected.
