Sixteen universities from the Greater Bay Area participated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Basketball Friendship Match held at BNU Zhuhai

From October 5 to 6, students from 8 universities in Guangdong Province and 8 universities from Hong Kong and Macao gathered at the Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) to participate in the "Together We Dream Cup" Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Basketball Friendship Match, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return, and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return through a popular activity among the youth.

During the opening ceremony, Wei Wei, Vice Chairman of the University Council, BNU and Chairperson of the University Council, BNU Zhuhai, delivered a speech encouraging all participating teams to embody the spirit of unity, hard work, mutual learning, and the pursuit of excellence, showcasing the vigorous competition style of youth and the collective spirit of students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Chinese women’s basketball players Shao Ting, Zhang Jingyi, and Liu Yutong presented signed basketballs to the participating teams.

Throughout the competition, students from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao showcased their enthusiasm on the court, creating many memorable moments.

In addition, a variety of themed and engaging activities were held simultaneously. Basketball stars such as former captain of the Chinese women's basketball team Shao Ting, coach Li Sunan of the Chinese university women's basketball team that won the championship at the 2023 Chengdu World University Games, and players Zhang Jingyi and Liu Yutong actively interacted with the participating students. Li Sunan, Zhang Jingyi, and Liu Yutong participated in a talk titled "The National Flag and Dreams on the Court," sharing inspiring stories of winning on the court, encouraging students to remember their missions, bravely chase their dreams, and actively contribute to the modernization of China and the dream of national rejuvenation for the second centenary goal. Shao Ting, Zhang Jingyi, and Liu Yutong conducted basketball workshops, teaching essential skills and tactics to the participants. The BNU women's basketball team, which has won multiple national championships in the Chinese University Basketball Association (CUBA), engaged in exchange matches with athletes from other universities, further deepening the interaction and friendship between mainland students and youth from Hong Kong and Macao.

After intense competition, the "Together We Dream Cup" Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Basketball Friendship Match concluded successfully. Each participating university team worked hard on the court, achieving both success and friendship.

-Men's Group Honorable Mentions: Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Jinan University Zhuhai Campus, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, Sun Yat-sen University

-Women's Group Honorable Mentions: Macau University of Science and Technology, Macao Polytechnic University, City University of Macau

The 220 participating students and faculty from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao united in hard work, mutual learning, and deepened friendship, expressing their best wishes for the prosperity of the great motherland and the stability and prosperity of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy. Representatives from various universities expressed that this event was not only a learning exchange in sports but also a connection of emotions and souls. A student representative from City University of Hong Kong, Wu Tingxin, stated that the theme of the event, "Together We Dream," resonates with the aspirations of youth from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, while also fostering the spirit of hard work and teamwork, making it significant to celebrate the country through sports.
