BNU Zhuhai Shines in Debut at Guangdong University Games with 14 Medals

Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai (BNU Zhuhai) made a triumphant debut at the 12th Guangdong Provincial University Games, held in Guangzhou from May 5 to 29. Competing in Group B-A for sports majors, the BNU Zhuhai delegation clinched 4 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals, securing the third place in the overall group standings. This historic achievement marked BNU Zhuhai’s successful entrance into Guangdong’s premier collegiate sports event, which featured over 10,000 athletes from more than 100 universities.

The athletics team emerged as the standout performer, propelling BNU Zhuhai to the fourth place in the track and field rankings. Liu Hongjiang dominated the men’s sprints, claiming gold in both the 200m and 400m events. He later teamed up with Xie Haobin, Li Yankui, and Ning Zihao to secure the third gold medal the men’s 4×400m relay team. Additonal medals came from Xie Haobin, Qin Yuwei, and Hu Rui, who contributed 2 silver and 3 bronze medals across individual events. In total, athletics accounted for 3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the table tennis program celebrated a milestone victory. Li Haoran secured BNU Zhuhai’s first-ever provincial games gold medal in the men’s singles after a thriling series of matches. The squad further showcased its growing prowess, earning silver in both men’s team competition and women’s singles, plus a bronze in the women’s team event. With a total haul of 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze, their performance highlighted the team’s rapid rise in competitive stature. .

In aerobics, Li Rui and Xie Huiyu each earned bronze medals in their respective individual categories, while a three-member team placed fourth in the group competition. These combined efforts secured BNU Zhuhai a fifth-place overall ranking for the aerobics.

In badminton, Liao Xuelian advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals (top 6), and the men’s volleyball team finished seventh against strong opposition.

Buoyed by this historic 14-medal debut, BNU Zhuhai is poised to accelerate its innovative sports-education integration model to cultivate talent and elevate competitive level. The team’s remarkable achievements serve as a springboard for sustained athletic excellence at BNU Zhuhai.
