Teachers and Students of BRS Speak Out for Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games:Together for a Shared Future

During the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games (Beijing 2022), teachers and students of Belt and Road School (BRS) of Beijing Normal University (BNU) spoke out through media both at home and abroad, showing the vision of “Together for a shared future.”

When being interviewed by CGTN, Djoomart Otorbaev, the professor of BRS and former Prime Minister of Kyrgyz Republic, said that the COVID-19 has brought new challenges to the Winter Olympics, but China has presented an unprecedentedly wonderful Winter Olympics to the world, showing the world its growing strength and potential. Beijing 2022 is progressing smoothly and the events are more exciting than ever.

International students and alumni of BRS have expressed their support for Olympic athletes through media both at home and abroad and sent their best wishes for China's successful host of Beijing 2022. Although the students are worldwide, they all have a strong affection for China because of their study experience in China. In particular, in 2017 and 2019, BRS organized field trips to Chongli district, Zhangjiakou, where students witnessed how a once undeveloped rural area has been converted to be the focus of global attention.

Darshana, a Sri Lankan alumnus of the IMBA program of BRS of BNU, was the first to send a blessing video. He said, “When I studied in China, I had the honor to participate in the Chongli field trips organized by BRS. I am very happy to see the success of Beijing 2022 in this city. From Sri Lanka, I wish Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games all the best and a bright future for all of us. Together for a shared future!”

ALKANJ, a 2021 student from Syria, said, “This global event brings people from all over the world together to show that unity can make the world a better place. I wish China prosperity and a happy new year. In the Year of the Tiger, I wish all the athletes can give their best performance on the world stage. Together for a shared future!”

Salum is an outstanding graduate of BRS and currently works in the Municipal Government of Songea, Tanzania. “China has perfect infrastructure, convenient transportation and a beautiful living environment,” he said in a video message. “It should be very enjoyable to participate in or to be a spectator of the Winter Olympics in China, especially to enjoy the Chinese food! Congratulations to China for successfully hosting Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and to the participants for achieving their goals. Together for a shared future!”

Sarvesh Lutchmun, a 2019 student from Mauritius, works at the Presidential Office. He said, “I have had the honor to visit Chongli in November 2019 when I was studying in the Master's Program of BRS of BNU and engaged in the field trip to Chongli organized by the School. I was privileged to witness the great preparatory work for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Games. What a wonderful experience. I wish Beijing 2022 a great success and I believe that China will certainly surprise the world. Together for a shared future! ”

Imran Khan, is a Pakistani student who was enrolled in BRS of BNU in 2020. He said, “The unity, cooperation and expectation displayed by Beijing 2022 are bringing confidence and strength to countries around the world. Beijing 2022 has captured the attention of Western countries and the world, showing that despite the ongoing pandemic, the passion, joy and friendship brought by winter sports are shared by people all over the world. Together for a shared future! ”

BRS organized field trips to Chongli, Zhangjiakou

Liu Qian, Deputy Dean of BRS, expressed her opinions about Beijing 2022 in an interview with Guangming Online (GMW), “It is an important way for China to promote international communication and enhance its international influence encouraging international students to go out of the classroom and experience China. International students are important envoys to tell China's stories and spread out China's voice. To cultivate international students from countries along the Belt and Road is an important task of BRS.” When it comes to bringing international students to Chongli to experience the preparatory work for Beijing 2022, she said, “Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is a beautiful memory for these students. I believe that in the future, more and more international students will come to China and become friendship envoys who understand and love China.”
