Experiencing China·Serial Activities of Experiencing Fine Traditional Chinese Culture-Tai Chi Class Held

On April 1, a Tai Chi class was organized with the aim to help international scholars and students experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture and the wonders of Tai Chi.

Organized by the International Office and presented by associate professor Sun Hongyou, a Tai Chi enthusiast, it is one of the "Experiencing China· Experiencing Fine Traditional Chinese Culture" activities, mainly including theory elaboration and practices. International scholars and students of Belt and Road School and Phoenix School attended this event.

Through a brief introduction to the fundamental element of Tai Chi-Qi, participants were guided to the world of Tai Chi. Then Sun explained the origin and the eight different forms of Tai Chi, the Taoism spirit in Tai Chi and the yin-yang principle in Tai Chi.  To assist participants better appreciate the philosophical thinking included in Tai Chi, he also discussed the advantages of Tai Chi and his interpretation of it with them. During his explanation, all were fully attentive and deeply attracted by the mystery of Tai Chi.

After elaboration, participants started to practice under Mr. Sun’s supervision and realized the features of combining inflexibility and yielding and coordination of Yin and Yang from his fluid movements. To provide better experience, he demonstrated some basic movements in person like starting form, pushing hands and breathing. Participants sensed their breath as they carefully observed the key movements.

Through this activity, participants built up their bodies and relieved stress as well as experienced directly the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

Tai Chi class is one of the activities of the brand project“ Experience China: Serial Activities of Experience Fine Traditional Chinese Culture” organized by the International Office, aiming at promoting Chinese culture, boosting friendship between Chinese and international students and strengthening their understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
